Lucretia Peabody Hale, who wrote The Peterkin Papers , was born in Boston in 1820 and died there in 1900—a lifespan less than Queen Victoria’s by a year at either end. She was the daughter of Nathan Hale, owner and editor of the Boston Daily Advertiser, and of Sarah Preston Everett Hale, sister of Edward Everett.
